Senior AI Engineer (Fixture)
AI Engineer · Senior · Contract-to-hire · Remote (US/EU overlap)
Senior engineering role focused on building production AI agents and agentic systems. Requires extensive experience shipping LLM-powered systems to production with emphasis on autonomous agent features, evaluation, and reliability at scale.
Senior AI Engineer
Location: Remote (US/EU overlap)
Engagement: Contract-to-hire
The Role
We're partnering with a forward-thinking organization that's pushing the boundaries of what's possible with autonomous AI systems. They need a Senior AI Engineer who doesn't just experiment with LLMs — someone who ships production-grade agentic systems that handle real complexity at scale.
This isn't about building chatbots or proof-of-concepts. You'll be architecting autonomous agent features that make decisions, take actions, and solve ambiguous problems without constant human oversight. The systems you build will directly impact how thousands of users interact with AI daily.
What You'll Do
- Ship autonomous agents to production — Design and build agent features that go beyond simple prompting to create truly autonomous workflows
- Own the full LLM pipeline — Take responsibility for evaluation, reliability, and latency of language model systems operating at scale
- Build robust integrations — Implement tool use, function calling, and retrieval systems that work reliably in production environments
- Transform ambiguity into systems — Partner with product teams to turn open-ended problems into well-architected, shipped solutions
What You Bring
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years building LLM-powered systems in production
- Proven track record of shipping production systems with real users and measurable impact — not just experiments
- Strong technical foundation in TypeScript and Python, with hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure (Vercel/AWS) and Postgres
- Deep agent expertise — You've worked with agent frameworks, structured outputs, and evaluation harnesses in production settings
Nice to Have
- Experience with Inngest or similar durable workflow runtimes
- Open-source contributions to AI tooling that demonstrate your expertise
Why This Opportunity
This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and production engineering. You'll have the autonomy to make architectural decisions that shape how AI agents operate in the real world, working with a team that values shipping over philosophizing.
If you're ready to move beyond prompt engineering and build the infrastructure that powers the next generation of AI applications, we want to hear from you.
HIR partners with innovative companies to find exceptional AI engineering talent. This role offers the opportunity to work on production AI systems that push the boundaries of what's possible with autonomous agents.
